What is ISO 22634‑1 - Determination of benzo[a]pyrene in cigarette smoke about ?
ISO 22634‑1 is a standard that covers methods for the determination of benzo[a]pyrene in cigarette mainstream smoke that enables limiting the presence of benzo[a]pyrene in cigarettes to ensure the safety of users.
ISO 22634‑1 specifies a method for the determination of benzo[a]pyrene (B[a]P) in the total particulate matter (TPM) of cigarette mainstream smoke using gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) with methanol as extraction solvent.
ISO 22634‑1 method is specified using ISO 3308 smoking parameters. An alternative method for the determination of B[a]P is specified in ISO 22634‑2 with a different clean-up using cyclohexane solvent and a shorter total analytical time.
Who is ISO 22634‑1 - Determination of benzo[a]pyrene in cigarette smoke for ?
ISO 22634‑1 on determination of benzo[a]pyrene in cigarette smoke is applicable to:
- Manufacturers of cigarettes
- Dealers and importers of cigarettes
- Testing houses and labs for cigarettes
- Regulatory bodies
Why should you use ISO 22634‑1 - Determination of benzo[a]pyrene in cigarette smoke ?
Tobacco smoke carcinogens are cofactors that work together with the human papillomavirus (HPV) to raise the risk of cervical cancer progression. BaP, a significant carcinogen found in cigarette smoke, has been found in cervical mucus and may interact with HPV.
ISO 22634‑1 provides you guidance on the gas chromatography/mass spectrometry GC/MS method which is a result of the collaborative experiment in which many countries participated that ensures the validity and authenticity of the method. ISO 22634‑1 also provides you with a step-by-step procedure for the method which enables you to do the method correctly.
Guidance in ISO 22634‑1 allows you to detect the benzo[a]pyrene levels in cigarettes and enables you to limit their presence according to regulatory requirements.
What’s changed since the last update ?
