What is ISO 22685 about?
ISO 22685 specifies a test method for determining the compressive strength of refractory products at elevated temperature. This test method could also be used for materials development, quality control, characterization, design and data generation purposes.
Note: ISO 22685 can also be used for determining the compressive strength of carbon containing refractory products at elevated temperature in an airtight furnace with reducing atmosphere.
Who is ISO 22685 for?
ISO 22685 on the determination of compressive strength of refractory products is beneficial to:
- Refractory products manufacturers
- Mechanical engineers
- Casting and moulding industries
Why should you use ISO 22685?
A refractory material or refractory is a material that is resistant to decomposition by heat, pressure, or chemical attack, and retains strength and form at high  tempertures. Refractory materials are used in furnaces, kilns, incinerators, and reactors. As refractory products go through a lot of pressure, temperature, chemical attack and compression it becomes important to determine their compressive strength.
ISO 22685 helps you by providing a test method for determining the compressive strength of refractory products at elevated temperatures which can be useful for various industries that use refractory products. This would be crucial to ensure optimal operational efficiency, strength and long service-life for your specific engineering and product needs.
ISO 22685 contributes to the following two UN Sustainable Development goals:
- Goal 9 on ensuring the building of resilient infrastructure, promoting inclusive and sustainable industrialization and fostering innovation
- Goal 12 on ensuring sustainable consumption and production patterns
