What is ISO 22899-1 about?
ISO 22899-1 is the first part of a multi-series that describes a method of determining the resistance to jet fires of passive fire protection materials and systems. It gives an indication of how passive fire protection materials behave in a jet fire and provide performance data under the specified conditions.
Note:
ISO 22899-1 does not include an assessment of other properties of the passive fire protection material such as weathering, ageing, shock resistance, impact, or explosion resistance, or smoke production.
Who is ISO 22899-1 for?
ISO 22899-1 on the determination of the resistance to jet fires applied for the following:
- Fire safety department
- Firefighting engineers
- Disaster management department
- Emergency response team of buildings
Why should you use ISO 22899-1?
Jet fires are turbulent diffusion flames resulting from the combustion of a fuel continuously released with some significant momentum in a particular direction or direction. Jet fires represent a significant element of the risk associated with major accidents on offshore installations.
The test procedure described in ISO 22899-1 enables the determination of properties of passive fire protection materials. This test helps you give an indication of how passive fire protection materials are likely to perform in a jet fire.
Individual thermal and mechanical loads imparted to the passive fire protection material from the jet fire defined in ISO 22899-1 shows resemblance to those imparted from large-scale jet fires resulting from high-pressure releases of natural gas. Thus, helps ensure resistance in such events as well.
ISO 22899-1 is beneficial as it supports with the guidance on installation and use of structural and operational systems to minimize the impact of fire on people and property. Passive Fire Protection also reduces structural damage to components throughout the greater building.
Results of test prescribes in ISO 22899-1 can be used as elements of a fire risk assessment for structures or plants. This also helps take into account all the other factors that are pertinent to an assessment of the fire hazard for a particular end use.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS ISO 22899-1:2021 cancels and replaces the first edition parts ISO 22899‑1:2007
Which has been technically revised.
The main changes compared to the previous edition are as follows:
- Corrections to figures
- Revision of the method of test for penetration seals
