What is ISO 22927 about ?
ISO 22927 specifies requirements and recommendations for the packaging and labelling of rare earth ores, concentrates, compounds, metals, and alloys that are intended for sale or free distribution.
ISO 22927 defines the performance and structure of packaging and specifies the information to include in the labelling. These requirements and recommendations are designed to ensure quality assurance, enhance safety, and prevent environmental pollution during the transportation and storage of rare earth products.
Note 1: There are numerous existing regulations concerning the packaging, labelling and shipment of materials. Depending on circumstances, such regulations can be referred to.
Note 2: ISO 22927 applies to packaging and labelling during transactions between companies and does not include packaging by companies during storage in their plant.
Who is ISO 22927 for ?
ISO 22927 on rare earth materials packaging and labelling is useful for:
- The mining industry
- The recycling and upcycling industry
- Distributors and suppliers of rare earth ores
- Organizations that purchase rare earth ores
- Rare earth ores and metal distributes
- Users of rare earth ores and metal
- Regulatory bodies
- Quality control personnel
Why should you use ISO 22927 ?
Rare earth materials (ores, concentrates, compounds, metals, and alloys) have some unique chemical and physical properties. For example, some rare earth products can readily react with O2, CO2 and moisture.
The method of labelling defined ISO 22927 enhances safety by indicating properties of rare earth products and ensures appropriate management of the product by indicating the identity of suppliers.
ISO 22927 provides requirements to ensure proper packaging and appropriate labelling of rare earth products that prevent them from losing their quality and causing accidents resulting from unwanted chemical reactions. Appropriate labelling with precise information on the properties, traceability, and ways of handling the product can also reduce the risk of quality degradation and accidents.
