What is ISO 22958 about?
ISO 22958 is a series on textiles. A textile is a flexible material made by creating an interlocking bundle of yarns or threads, which are produced by spinning raw fibres into long and twisted lengths. ISO 22958 specifies a test for measuring the resistance of fabrics to the penetration of water by impact. ISO 22958can be used to predict the probable rain penetration resistance of textile fabrics.
ISO 22958 is applicable to any textile fabric, whether it has been given a water-resistant or water-repellent finish. It is especially suitable for measuring apparel fabrics. Testing at different intensities of water impact gives a complete picture of the penetration resistance of a single fabric or combination of fabrics. The test is particularly suitable when measuring highly water-resistant fabrics with low amounts of water penetration.
Who is ISO 22958 for?
ISO 22958 on textile is useful for:
- Textile manufacturer
- Textile testing institution
- Quality control personnel
Why should you use ISO 22958?
Textiles are then formed: by weaving, knitting, crocheting, knitting, tatting, felting, bonding, or braiding these yarns together. Something that is water-resistant does not allow water to pass through it easily or is not easily damaged by water. Microfibre fabrics are both water-resistant and windproof. ISO 22958 specifies a method which is the rain test It measures the resistance of fabrics to the penetration of water by impact and thus can be used to predict the probable rain penetration resistance of fabrics.
The main function of outdoor clothing is to provide protection against environmental factors. In a wet environment, the basic requirement for clothing is to keep the wearer dry. Water-resistant fabrics will resist wetting by water for longer. A water resistance textile or fabric is most used and helpful for consumers as if the textile or fabric is not water-resistant it can decrease the quality level, by getting wet many times the appearance of the final product can be affected by multiply times getting wet so, just to protect the final from this the manufacturer must make the water-resistance goods to increase their demand and supply of the product which will automatically increase the profitability and the production level of the company which will impact in maintaining the goodwill of the company or will increase the goodwill of the company and ISO 22958 will help the company to do this. Using ISO 22958 you can specify a test for measuring the resistance of fabrics to the penetration of water by impact.
What is changed since the last update?
BS ISO 22958:2021 supersedes ISO 22958:2005. BS ISO 22958:2021 includes some technical and editorial changes with respect ISO 22958:2005. These include:
- Rain Tester, structural details figure has been revised to reflect the relative dimensions of the square specimen more accurately
- editorial changes have been applied throughout for clarity
