What is ISO 23071 about?
ISO 23071 describes methods for the determination of mineralogical phases often present as additives or reaction products in carbon containing or graphitic refractory products by X-ray Diffraction (XRD) using a Bragg-Brentano diffractometer.
ISO 23071 includes details of sample preparation and general principles for qualitative and quantitative analysis of mineralogical phase composition. Quantitative determination of α-Si3N4, β-Si3N4, AlN, aluminium metal, Al4C3, silicon metal, boron carbide and BN are described.
Note: For rationalisation of nitrogen containing phases, the total nitrogen content, analysed in accordance with EN 12698‑1 is used.
Who is ISO 23071 for?
ISO 23071 on mineralogical phases graphitic refractory products is beneficial for:
- Refractory products manufacturers
- Mechanical engineers
- Steelmaking industry
- Castors
Why should you use ISO 23071?
A refractory material or refractory is a material that is resistant to decomposition by heat, pressure, or chemical attack, and retains strength and form at high temperatures.
ISO 23071 states methods for the determination of mineralogical phases which is the study of materials to determine the mineral composition and mineral structure which can help in identify mineral species, and understand their characteristics and properties.
With ISO 23071, you will be able to assess the extent of thermal conductivity and resistance to thermal shocks.
With best practice guidance on XRD analysis with ISO 23071, you will be able to incorporate standardised methods to evaluate the overall performance of refractory products, thus making the right choice based on chemical composition as per your specified engineering and industrial needs.
