What is ISO 23555-1 – Gas pressure regulators about?
ISO 23555-1 is an international standard that focuses on gas pressure safety and control devices for use in gas transmission, distribution, and installations for inlet pressures up to and including 10 Mpa.
ISO 23555-1 specifies generic safety, constructional, performance, testing, and documentation requirements for high-pressure control for use in gas transmission, distribution, and installations (hereafter referred to as controls).
ISO 23555-1 is applicable to controls with operating pressures greater than 500 kPa (5 bar) and up to and including 10 MPa (100 bar) and nominal size up to DN 400 for use with fuel gases such as natural gas, manufactured gas, biomethane or liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in commercial, industrial installations, including fuel gas infrastructures.
Who is ISO 23555-1 - Gas pressure regulators for?
ISO 23555-1 on gas pressure safety and control devices for use in gas transmission, distribution, and installations for inlet pressures up to and including 10 Mpa is useful for:
- Gas equipment manufacturers
- Gas regulator distributors
- Design engineers
- Testing authorities
- Quality control personnel
Why should you use ISO 23555-1 - Gas pressure regulators?
Regulators are used for gases and liquids and can be an integral device with a pressure setting, a restrictor, and a sensor all in one body, or consist of a separate pressure sensor, controller, and flow valve. The gas pressure regulator is a device whose function is to maintain the value of the controlled variable within its tolerance field irrespective of disturbance variables.
ISO 23555-1 provides general requirements for controls and protective devices and is intended to be used in conjunction with ISO 23555-2 and ISO 23555-3 for specific types of controls and protective devices or for controls for specific applications.
ISO 23555-1 gives you the safety, construction, and performance requirements for gas pressure regulators used in gas transmission, distribution, and installations for inlet pressures up to and including 10 Mpa. It provides you guidance on the classification, requirements for materials and test conditions, construction requirements, and performance and durability requirements for gas pressure regulators.
If you are a manufacturer, complying with requirements given in ISO 23555‑1 can ensure your gas pressure regulators are fit for purpose. As a result, risks and hazards arising from inefficient detection capabilities can be minimized.
