What is ISO 23731 about?
ISO 23731 discusses standards for the marine environment impact assessment (MEIA). ISO 23731 specifies requirements and provides recommendations for the gathering of image-based data at the seafloor where epifauna and benthopelagic fauna with a minimum dimension of 1 cm is used as a proxy for the status of the biological community.
ISO 23731 focuses on the specifications for in situ image-based surveys in deep seafloor environments to be used for marine environmental impact assessments.
Who is ISO 23731 for?
ISO 23731 on marine environment impact assessment (MEIA) for marine technology is useful for:
- Marine industry
- Testing agencies involved in the inspection of the marine environment
- Laboratories engaged in surveys of seafloor environments
- Marine engineers
Why should you use ISO 23731?
ISO 23731 provides you with specifications for in situ image-based surveys in deep seafloor environments to be used for marine environmental impact assessments and other purposes where a long-term image-based survey in the deep sea is required.
Marine environment impact assessment (MEIA) covered by ISO 23731 is a methodology used to identify and evaluate the impact to help RM activities by identifying dominant contributors to impacts so that resources can be effectively allocated to address significant impacts on the environment and are not wasted on items that contribute insignificantly to them.
ISO 23731 provides you with useful data sets to assess the amount of natural variation in biological systems over a range of different spatial and temporal dimensions.
ISO 23731 also provides data on recruitment and community succession patterns.
Obtaining ISO 23731 helps marine engineers and surveyors in including risk results in management and engineering practices and the decision-making process throughout a project life cycle, for such aspects as design, construction, testing, operation, maintenance, disposal, management.
