What is ISO 24041 about?
ISO 24041 specifies requirements for the design, operation, performance and acceptance tests of marine shark jaws and towing pins having electric, hydraulic, diesel or steam drive.
It is applicable to the design, manufacture and acceptance of marine shark jaws and towing pins.
Who is ISO 24041 for?
ISO 24041 on shark jaws and towing pins is relevant to:
- Ships and marine manufacturers
- Port products manufacturers
- Design engineers for port applications
- Quality control personnel for marine applications
Why should you use ISO 24041?
A shark jaw is an equipment for temporarily securing the inboard end of a towline, while towing pin is an equipment for leading and restraining a towline to the intended path. When used in conjunction with centring devices, these items retract flush with the deck when not in use.
ISO 24041 covers design parameters for shark jaw, towing pins, support box and lubrication. The acceptance tests mentioned in ISO 24041 can be conducted in the factory or on board. The tests include:
- Control system utility test
- Emergency release test
- Waterproof test
By adopting ISO 24041, you can determine the safe working load (SWL)- total allowable working load considered safe of shark jaw or towing pins, under design working conditions. With increased safety and functionality, ISO 24041-compliant shark jaws and towing pins can contribute to the overall operational efficiency and enhanced performance of the end-application.
