What is ISO 24044 about?
ISO 24044 is an International Standard on ships and marine technology.
ISO 24044 specifies the classification, requirements, test methods, and inspection rules, as well as marking, packaging, shipping, and storage requirements for multifunctional manipulators for deck operations.
ISO 24044 is applicable to the design, manufacture, and acceptance of double folding multifunctional manipulators for clamping and tidying the anchor chain and ropes in deck operations.
Who is ISO 24044 for?
ISO 24044 on deck machinery is useful for:
- Ships and marine technology providers
- Manufacturers of parts and equipment used in marine technology
- Product design engineers
- Mechanical engineers
Why should you use ISO 24044?
With the rapid progress of the marine engineering equipment industry, the need for intelligent and integrated deck machinery is of utmost importance. In this regard, the need to standardise aspects of multifunctional manipulators has been increasing.
ISO 24044 provides the design and structure requirements for steel wire rope, hook, pulley, boom, slewing tower body, base and carrier structure, slewing mechanism, travelling mechanism, braking system, multifunctional heads and electric control system.
ISO 24044 ensures the multifunctional manipulator provides the following safety protection functions:
- Lifting/lowering height protection
- Operation stroke protection (applicable to the travelling multifunctional manipulator);
- Maximum/minimum boom range protection
- Slewing angle protection (applicable to the multifunctional manipulator with the slewing angle limit) and audible and visual alarm
- Buffer and end stop protection (applicable to the travelling multifunctional manipulator)
- Emergency stop and audible and visual alarm
Overall, ISO 24044 helps you to ensure that deck operations are conducted within defined and recognized safety and performance standards, with multifunctional manipulators that are capable of efficiently completing complex operations such as anchoring, towing, hoisting and salvaging.
