What is ISO 2407 – Cylindrical grinding machines about?
ISO 2407 specifies, with reference to ISO 230-1, both geometric and machining tests on general purpose and normal accuracy internal cylindrical grinding machines with a horizontal spindle, whether fitted with a facing wheel head slide or not. ISO 2407 also specifies the applicable tolerances corresponding to the above-mentioned tests.
ISO 2407 provides the terminology used for the principal parts of the machine and the designation of the axes with reference to ISO 841.
Note: ISO 2407 deals only with the verification of the accuracy; it applies neither to the testing of the machine operation (vibrations, abnormal noise, stick-slip motion of components, etc.), nor to the checking of its characteristics (such as speeds, feeds, etc.), which should generally be checked before the testing of the accuracy.
Who is ISO 2407 – Cylindrical grinding machines for?
ISO 2407 on test conditions for internal cylindrical grinding machines with horizontal spindle is useful for:
- Manufacturers of grinding machines
- Designers of grinding machines
- Quality control personnel
- Testing personnel
Why should you use ISO 2407– Cylindrical grinding machines?
Cylindrical grinding machines are used to create precise shapes, and to provide materials with a superior surface quality with minimum roughness. These machines need to be well designed or else they would be incapable of providing a smooth surface to materials.
ISO 2407 verifies the dimensions and assembly of the components of the cylindrical grinding machine. ISO 2407 provides test methods to verify the straightness and parallelism of the wheel head and spindles which are the components that perform or facilitate grinding.
In conclusion, the test methods of ISO 2407 help you to ensure the accuracy and build quality of your circular grinding machines.
