What is ISO 24076 about?
ISO 24076 specifies a relative method for the determination of polypropylene (PP) isotactic index by low-resolution pulsed nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (LR-NMR).
ISO 24076 enables the identification and coding of types H propylene (PP-H) plastics
ISO 24076 is suitable for base polymers and is not applicable for mixtures
Who is ISO 24076 for?
ISO 24076 on the determination of isotactic index is useful for:
- Plastic industry
- PP manufacturers and suppliers
- Chemical engineers
Why should you use ISO 24076?
PP is one of the most commonly used thermoplastics in the world. PP uses range from plastic packaging, plastic parts for machinery and equipment, and even fiber and textiles. Isotactic index sounds similar to tacticity (isotacticity or stereotactic) of the polymer chain, but the concept and result are different. The result is related to but not equal to the tacticity (isotacticity or stereotactic) of the molecular chain, which can be determined by the high-resolution carbon-13 nuclear magnetic resonance and infrared method.
ISO 24076 thus gives determination of polypropylene (PP) isotactic index.
The determination of the isotactic index by low-resolution nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometry suggested under ISO 24076 ensures how the atoms of PP will combine together for optimal performance, making the overall plastic stronger and durable. As a manufacturer, quoting the isotactic index that indicates the percentage of isotactic polymer in the grade, will enhance clarity and credibility over the choice of PP as per specific application needs.
