What is ISO 24095 about?
ISO 24095 discusses the quality of workplace air. ISO 24095 gives details about crystalline silica particles in the air. ISO 24095 gives you guidelines for the measurement of respirable crystalline silica in the air using direct on‑filter or indirect X‑ray diffraction and infrared analysis methods. This also includes quality aspects of the measurements. ISO 24095 includes the following crystalline silica polymorphs: quartz and cristobalite.
These guidelines are intended for use in conjunction with the following specific analytical methods under the jurisdiction of ISO TC 146 SC 2: ISO 162581, ISO 162582, and ISO 19087. When used with any of these documents, this guide helps you to ensure measurement procedures meet the uncertainty requirements stipulated in ISO 20581, to enable the results to be compared to occupational exposure limit values (OELV).
Who is ISO 24095 for?
ISO 24095 on workplace air is useful for:
- The construction industry
- The mining industry
- The oil and gas industry
- Air quality testing laboratories
- Health and safety inspectors
- Human resources executives
- Industrial hygienists
Why should you use ISO 24095?
Respirable crystalline silica (RCS) is a hazard to the health of workers in many industries through exposure by inhalation. Industrial hygienists and other public health professionals need to determine the effectiveness of measures taken to control workers' exposure.
ISO 24095 provides benefits to those involved in the determination of RCS in the workplace. For example, agencies that are concerned with health and safety at work; industrial hygienists; safety and health professionals; analytical laboratories; industrial users and their workers.
The aim of ISO 24095 is to give information to select the most appropriate method for the analysis of RCS. ISO 24095 deals with the many factors that may influence the variability of measurement around the true value. Information is provided to minimize the uncertainty in measurement. The uncertainty of an air measurement is the combination of the variation of measurements from the true value from both the sampling and chemical analysis.
