What is ISO 24136 about?
ISO 24136 discusses winch reels of a pilot ladder for ships and marine applications.
ISO 24136 specifies the requirements and characteristics of ships’ pilot ladder winch reels provided with hydraulic, pneumatic, electric, or manual drive.
ISO 24136 applies to the design and test of pilot ladder winch reels.
Pilot ladder winch reels specified under ISO 24136 are intended to be only used with pilot ladders conforming to ISO 799‑1.
Note: ISO 24136 does not include requirements for the prime mover that is used to operate the pilot ladder winch reels.
Note: ISO 24136 is not intended to be used for ‘man lifting’ activities.
Who is ISO 24136 for?
ISO 24136 on pilot ladder winch reels on ships is relevant to:
- Shipping and marine industries
- Maritime pilots and industries
- Pilot ladder winch reels manufacturers
- Deck equipment and installations systems manufacturers
- Water transport engineering industry
Why should you use ISO 24136?
When winch reels are used for lowering the pilot ladder on the ship, the construction of pilot ladder winch reels should be at such a position that it can’t obstruct the safe access to and from the ship. Pilot ladder winch reels need to comply with quality standards to have safe use. ISO 24136 provides the design and performance guidelines for the safe operation of pilot ladder winch reels.
ISO 24136 is useful for independent acceptance of pilot ladder winch reels and assists you in determining the quality and type of material being used for making the pilot ladder winch reels.
By adopting ISO 24136, manufacturers can build effective winch reels for ships and have the quality assurance to ensure that winch reels are produced according to the requirement to build trust in their use throughout the ship and marine supply chain.
