What is ISO 24169 – Ships and marine technology about?
ISO 24169 is an International Standard that focuses on ships and marine technology. It gives guidelines for fireproof watertight hatch covers.
ISO 24169 specifies the classification, flagging, requirements, test methods, inspection rules, markings, packaging, transportation, and storage of fireproof watertight hatch covers installed on decks (hereafter referred to as “hatch covers”).
ISO 24169 applies to the design, manufacture, and acceptance of fireproof watertight hatch covers installed on decks of ships where anticipated water pressure by the wave is up to 10 m.
Who is ISO 24169 - Ships and marine technology for?
ISO 24169 on ships and marine technology is useful for:
- Ship manufacturing companies
- Testing authorities
- Product designers
- Marine Engineers
- The marine and shipbuilding industry
Why should you use ISO 24169 - Ships and marine technology?
As the world progresses towards a higher level of autonomy, the shipping industry is also adapting to this trend with smart ship technologies. ISO 24169 covers the best industry requirements of construction and materials, appropriate performance characteristics along with precautions to be taken against various failure modes.
ISO 24169 also provides guidance on performance tests to be carried out to demonstrate whether your turn indicators are fit for purpose. This can be beneficial for quality control purposes to ensure accuracy and adequate electromagnetic compatibility of fireproof watertight hatch covers for safe and reliable marine navigation.
ISO 24169 ensures the design and manufacturing of the best quality, defect-free ships and helps the users in aspects like marking, packaging, transportation, etc.
