What is ISO 24449 about?
ISO 24449 specifies a method for determining the thermal conductivity of ceramic top coat (TC) constituting thermal barrier coating (TBC) subjected to heat treatment, in a direction normal to the coating surface, from room temperature up to 1 000 °C.
ISO 24449 outlines the principles, terms and definitions, apparatus for measuring thermal diffusivity, specimen, measuring procedure, thermal conductivity of RC and the report.
Who is ISO 24449 for?
ISO 24449 on thermal barrier coatings is applicable to:
- Power-generation gas turbines thermal power plants
- Aero-engines manufacturer
- Aerospace industry
- Automotive manufacturers
Why should you use ISO 24449?
To survive deformation in high-temperature operations, the thermal conductivity of coatings must be determined. ISO 24449 specifies a method for determining the thermal conductivity of thermal barrier coatings to access their performance which improves its efficiency and durability.
To safeguard metallic components for extended periods of time at high elevated temperatures by using thermal barrier coatings that can withstand a significant temperature differential between load-bearing alloys and coating surfaces. ISO 24449 assists the recommendations in testing the performance of thermal barrier coatings that allow high-temperature operation by protecting these components and therefore prolonging their lifespan.
