What is ISO 2493‑2 about?
ISO 2493‑2 is the second part of the ISO 2493 series on paper and paperboard. ISO 2493‑2 is an international standard on paper and board to determine the resistance of paper and paperboard.
ISO 2493‑2 specifies procedures to measure the bending resistance of paper and paperboard using a Taber-type tester.
ISO 2493‑2 is used to determine the bending moment required to deflect the free end of a 38 mm wide vertically clamped specimen by 15° when the load is applied at a bending length of 50 mm. For boards that tend to be permanently deformed if bent through 15°, the half bending angle, i.e., 7,5°, can be used. The bending resistance is expressed in terms of the bending moment and parameters set by the manufacturer of the Taber-type tester.
Note: ISO 2493‑2 does not cover the low-range version of the Taber-type instrument that uses a bending length of 10 mm
Who is ISO 2493‑2 for?
ISO 2493‑2 on procedures to measure the bending resistance of paper and paperboard is useful for:
- Paper industries
- Paper manufacturers
- Packaging companies
- Testing laboratories/ test providers for paper and paperboard products
Why should you use ISO 2493‑2?
Bending resistance is the resistance of a paper and paperboard against bending deformation.
ISO 2493‑2 provides you with a detailed account of the Taber-type test methods requirements like apparatus, calibration, sampling, conditioning, and procedures to determine the resistance of paper and paper board against bending.
By using the Taber-type test method provided by ISO 2493‑2 you can measure the stiffness of paper and paperboard and determine the correct grade of paperboard for packaging applications.
What is changed since the last update?
BS ISO 2493‑2:2020 supersedes ISO 2493-2:2011. BS ISO 2493‑2:2020 has some technical changes. These include:
- Additional data to be reported in Clause 12
- Several editorial updates
