What is ISO 2965-Determination of air permeability in cigarettes about?
ISO 2965 is an international standard that covers a method for the determination of air permeability in cigarettes which affects smoldering temperatures and times in cigarettes. ISO 2965 specifies a method for the determination of air permeability (AP).
ISO 2965 is applicable to materials used as cigarette papers, filter plug wrap and filter joining paper, including materials having an oriented permeable zone or discrete permeable zones where the measured permeability is in excess of 10 cm3·(min−1·cm−2) at 1 kPa. In addition, it is applicable to banded cigarette papers, with bands of a width of at least 4 mm.
Who is ISO 2965-Determination of air permeability in cigarettes for?
ISO 2965 on determination of air permeability in cigarettes applies to:
- Manufacturers of cigarettes
- Dealers and importers of cigarettes
- Testing houses and labs for cigarettes
- Regulatory bodies
Why should you use ISO 2965-Determination of air permeability in cigarettes?
Measurements of air permeability of materials used as cigarette papers have been made for many years. The methods have required development and change because of the changing nature of the paper products and changes in the magnitude of their air permeability.
ISO 2965 provides you with a method that is developed by the Centre for Scientific Research Relative to Tobacco (CORESTA) which ensures the validity and authenticity of the method.
ISO 2965 provides you guidance on principle, apparatus, sampling, procedure, measurement, expression of results, precision and test report which enables you to determine the air permeability in cigarettes which ensures the quality of cigarettes.
Guidance in ISO 2965 enables you to determine the air permeability which affects smoldering temperatures, smoldering times, char lengths and char areas that affect the performance and safety of cigarettes.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS ISO 2965:2019 supersedes BS ISO 2965:2009, which is now withdrawn.
Changes in BS ISO 2965:2019 include -
- Use of a 0.30 cm2 test piece holder has been allowed for measurement of small paper areas
- Formula (E.3) has been corrected
