What is ISO 3011 about?
ISO 3011 specifies a method for the determination of the resistance of fabrics coated with rubber or plastics to ozone cracking under static conditions.
The test is designed to determine the relative resistance to cracking of fabric coated with rubber or plastics when exposed under static strain to air containing ozone in the absence of direct sunlight.
Who is ISO 3011 for?
ISO 3011 on the determination of fabrics’ resistance to ozone cracking is relevant to:
- Rubber- or plastics-coated fabric manufacturers
- Companies that manufacture, supply, commission, service and calibrate ozone test chambers
- Chemical engineers
Why should you use ISO 3011?
Atmospheric ozone has the tendency to degrade rubber or plastic-coated fabrics.
ISO 3011 provides the guidelines on the test method to assess the resistance to ozone cracking under static conditions including apparatus, test pieces, and test conditions. Different rubber polymers will have greater or less resistance to ozone. The resistance of material will determine which applications it should be used for.
Complying with ISO 3011 will enable you to prevent deterioration and degradation of the plastic or rubber components being used over fabrics, as a result, minimising product failures and enhancing reliability of the brand and product where applied.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS ISO 3011:2021 supersedes ISO 3011:1997. BS ISO 3011:2021 includes some technical changes with respect to ISO 3011:1997. These include:
- Terms and definitions have been added
- A subclause on relative humidity has been added
