What is ISO 3031 about?
ISO 3031 specifies the boundary dimensions and tolerances for thrust needle roller and cage assemblies. Furthermore, it recommends dimensions and tolerances for thrust washers, i.e., raceway members, which can be used either as shaft or housing washers.
Note 1: Annex A gives general characteristics for the application of thrust needle roller and cage assemblies and thrust washers.
Note 2: The gauging method for thrust needle roller and cage assemblies and thrust washers is given in Annex B.
Who is ISO 3031 for?
ISO 3031 on rolling bearings is relevant to:
- Manufacturers of rolling bearings
- Manufacturers of thrust needle roller and cage assemblies
- Mechanical engineers
- Aerospace industry
Why should you use ISO 3031?
Thrust needle roller and cage assemblies are some of the most compact roller bearings with the highest load ratings. The goal of these assemblies is to transfer a thrust load between two roughly spinning objects with little friction. Lipped washers, which serve as raceway surfaces for the needle rollers, can also be used to unitize thrust needle roller and cage assemblies.
The boundary dimensions and tolerances for thrust needle roller and cage assemblies are defined by ISO 3031. ISO 3031 specifies dimensions and tolerances for thrust washers, also known as raceway members, which can be employed as shafts or housing washers. Adopting a standardized framework for designs can make sure components in rotating assemblies remain aligned.
Overall, ISO 3031 helps in rotary applications to replace sliding movement with low friction, rolling motion. Overall, the ISO 3031 compliant guidance on dimensions can impart excellent service despite rapid acceleration, temperature, or load, assisting in improved performance of the end-use application.
