What is ISO 37161 about?
ISO 37161 discusses smart community infrastructure. ISO 37161 provides guidance on reducing the energy consumed by transportation for passengers, delivery items, freight and postal item services in cities and city zones.
ISO 37161 does not designate specific procedures to save energy but suggests energy-saving options to be adopted in transportation systems normally organized in different locations, on different scales and for different purposes.
Who is ISO 37161 for?
ISO 37161 on smart community infrastructure and guidance on smart transportation is useful for:
- Community leaders
- City planning officials
- Transportation service providers
- Drivers of vehicles
- Mechanics and technicians
Why should you use ISO 37161?
The principle of smart transportation for energy-saving depends not only on transportation modes but also on methods of traction for running vehicles because energy is consumed mainly when driving vehicles. In addition to vehicle operation, energy is used to support dispatch operations and organize entire transportation systems. Therefore, to successfully reduce energy consumption, the entire structure of transportation systems needs to be studied.
ISO 37161 describes the targets of smart transportation for energy-saving and how it works in transportation systems, according to the general guidelines on smart transportation of ISO 37154. ISO 37161 helps you create a framework for smart transportation that is integrated into all the modes of transportation and maintain coordination among each other. ISO 37161 helps you to identify locations where certain modes of transportation are well suited this will help you reduce traffic congestion and energy consumption. ISO 37161 helps you to introduce smart transportation for energy-saving in your community infrastructure and guide you on how to maintain its operational quality.
ISO 37161 to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, Goal 3 on good health and well-being, Goal 7 on affordable and clean energy Goal 8 on decent work and economic growth, Goal 9 on industry, innovation and infrastructure, Goal 11 on sustainable cities and communities, Goal 12 on responsible consumption and production, Goal 13 on climate action and Goal 15 on life on land.
