What is ISO 4216 about?
ISO 4216 specifies the continuous measurement method of shrinkage for thermosetting resin and/or UV curable resin.
UV curable resin is that which is cured by receiving energy from UV rays, while thermosetting resin is cured by receiving energy from heat.
Who is ISO 4216 for?
ISO 4216 on the determination of shrinkage is relevant to:
- Thermosetting resin and UV curable resin manufacturers
- Coating, ink and adhesive industry
- Chemical engineers
Why should you use ISO 4216?
During the curing process, resin tends to shrink as a result of chemical reaction and evaporation of volatiles. In this regard, ISO 4216 measures curing shrinkage continuously with just a trace amount of resin.
ISO 4216 specifies the continuous measurement method as a means to improve quality control and further promote the technical advancement of high precision production.
As compared to conventional tests, the continuous measurement method is convenient given the shorter measurement time and smaller sample size, and also more accurate.
ISO 4216 provides the required guidelines on determination of shrinkage for thermosetting resin, including test materials, test conditions, apparatus, procedures and formulas.
The curing behaviour of resin such as thermal expansion and thermal contraction is also observed in ISO 4216.
Determination of shrinkage in the thermosetting and UV curable resin through continuous measurement method in compliance with ISO 4216 can help you avoid defects, strength reduction, and deformation of the finished parts or products, especially in high precision required applications.
