What is ISO 4443 - Determination of cryolite about?
Cryolite is an uncommon mineral used in the electrolytic processing of aluminium-rich oxide ore bauxite.
ISO 4443 specifies a wavelength-dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometric (XRF) method for the determination of cryolite (Na3AlF6) from the content of fluorine to the content of trace elements. The calibration reference materials are not specified in this method.
ISO 4443 is applicable to cryolite, which is primarily used for the production of aluminium. ISO 4443 provides conversion factors for converting elements to compounds. The validity and precision of test results for concentrations outside these ranges have not been determined.
Who is ISO 4443 - Determination of cryolite for?
ISO 4443 on the determination of cryolite is useful for:
- Chemical manufacturers
- Chemical engineers
- Testing laboratories
- Production
- Quality control personnel
- Regulatory authorities
Why should you use ISO 4443 - Determination of cryolite?
In the production of aluminium, cryolite is used as a flux in order to lower the melting points of aluminium smelting baths and increase the conductivity of the electrolyte. This use is critical during the start-up and normal operation stages of electrolysis cells.
ISO 4443 specifies reagents and materials used for the cryolite determination procedure. ISO 4443 provides users with a test procedure that contributes to the chemical characteristics of cryolite ensuring its reliability.
The guidelines in ISO 4443 help you with the determination of cryolite from the content of fluorine enabling you to provide a superior quality product to the users.
