What is ISO 4574 – plasticizer absorption of PVC about?
Since pure PVC is brittle, it requires added plasticizers to make it flexible and to impart other desired properties. Unabsorbed plasticizer deprives the compound from achieving free flowability. Testing is required to determine the absorption rate.
ISO 4574 specifies a method for determining the hot plasticizer absorption of PVC polymers intended for general use by hot mixing in a planetary mixer and measuring the amount of plasticizer absorbed.
Who is ISO 4574 – plasticizer absorption of PVC for?
ISO 4574 on hot plasticizer absorption of PVC polymers is useful for:
- Manufacturers of PVC products such as pipes, plastic bottles, food-covering sheets
- PVC polymers testing laboratories
- Product development teams
- Health and safety bodies
Why should you use ISO 4574 – plasticizer absorption of PVC?
A need exists to evaluate the amount of plasticizer absorbed by a PVC polymer which is to be used in dry blending operations. ISO 4574 specifies a standardized technique under set conditions and is intended to supplement the results obtained using ISO 4608.
ISO 4574 discusses the terms and definitions and principles for the test. ISO 4574 walks you through the test steps such as regulation of the thermostat, and measurement of the mass of DOP.
Using ISO 4574 guidelines you can determine plasticizer absorption so that you can design products for your customers accordingly.
