What is ISO 487 – steel roller chains - type S and C about?
Dimensional compatibility as well as material used for manufacture affects the functioning and effectiveness of chains, attachments, and sprockets.
ISO 10570 is an International Standard that specifies the characteristics of a range of steel roller chains, dimensionally derived from the malleable iron type and suitable for the conditions of operation and maintenance prevailing in such fields as agriculture, building, quarrying and related industry, mechanical handling, etc., and of associated chain sprockets.
Who is ISO 487 - steel roller chains - type S and C for?
ISO 487 on ‘steel roller chains - type S and C’ is useful for:
- The manufacturing industry
- Manufacturers and suppliers steel roller chains and sprockets
- Product design engineers
- Mechanical engineers
- Manufacturers and suppliers of machines and equipment
- Quality control personnel
Why should you use ISO 487 - steel roller chains - type S and C?
Roller chains are used for the transmission of mechanical power on many kinds of domestic, industrial and agricultural machinery. These include conveyors, wire- and tube-drawing machines, printing presses, cars, motorcycles, and bicycles.
ISO 487 includes information about dimensions, minimum tensile strength, pre-loading, cranked link, as well as length measurement. ISO 487 also provides you with details about chain attachment plates. In addition, discusses sprockets from a perspective of materials and dimensions of teeth. Marking guidelines have been provided for all these components. Illustrations and tables have been provided in ISO 487 to give you clarity on attachment plates and dimensions.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS ISO 487:1998 supersedes BS ISO 487:1984 which has been withdrawn. BS ISO 10570:2004 includes some technical changes with reference to BS ISO 487:1984. These include:
- Introduced a new range of higher strength chains (“H” series)
- Introduced “F4” attachments for the S45 and S55 chains
- Deleted the corn picker attachments as these are not deemed relevant to current practice in industry.
