What is ISO 4960 - Steel strip about?
ISO 4960 is an international standard on steel strips that discusses the criteria for manufacturing high-quality steel strips. ISO 4960 specifies the minimum requirements for steel strips of carbon over 0,25 %, in coils and cut lengths. The product applies to highly stressed parts of many different types and is characterized by close dimensional tolerances and controlled surface finishes.
The steel strip is produced in several types and surface finishes to be compatible with different applications requirements.
NOTE: ISO 4960 does not apply to alloy steels or stainless steels.
Who is ISO 4960 - Steel strip for?
ISO 4960 on steel strip is relevant to:
- Manufacturer of steel strips
Why should you use ISO 4960 - Steel strip?
Steel strips are flat-rolled, very thin sheets of steel. Steel strip offers many advantages such as increased corrosion resistance, tensile strength, and ductility, as well as cryogenic toughness.
ISO 4960 provides guidance on conditions of manufacture, chemical composition, chemical analysis, mechanical properties, tensile properties, weldability, surface finish condition, and various test methods.
As a user of ISO 4960, you can be ensured of carbon in steel strips. ISO 4960 exemplifies the required chemical composition (heat analysis), hardness, tensile strength, and elongation requirements that help you achieve precision in terms of the product specification. With obedience and compliance to ISO 4960, you can efficiently manufacture high-quality steel strips.
ISO 4960 provides you with comprehensive information useful throughout the process of production.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS ISO 4960:2019 supersedes BS ISO 4960:2007, which is withdrawn.
The main changes compared to the previous edition are as follows:
- Added definitions for surface finishes and "lot"
- Revised scope
- Added clause 4 for “dimensions”
- “Specified qualities appropriate to the particular grade” changed to “ordering conditions”, renumbered as 5.3
- 5.1 changed from hrb to hrbw
