What is ISO 50045‒ Energy savings of thermal power plants about?
ISO 50045 is an international standard that deals with solutions for energy management and energy savings.
ISO 50045 gives general technical guidelines for evaluating energy savings of thermal power plants before and/or after implementing energy performance improvement action(s) (EPIAs). It includes evaluation, unit component efficiency, indexes calculation, analyses, and reporting.
ISO 50045 is applicable to existing thermal power generating units (TPGUs), where fossil fuels are combusted to generate electricity or to supply thermal energy.
Note 1: ISO 50045 does not prescribe performance tests or measurements for TPGU equipment components/systems, the sampling and analysis of the fuels used, substances added for control of emissions (e.g., halide, limestone), by-products (e.g., ash, gypsum), and instruments to be employed.
Who is ISO 50045‒ Energy savings of thermal power plants for?
ISO 50045 on energy savings of thermal power plants is useful for:
- Government regulators/authorities dealing with energy-saving policies of a thermal power plant
- Any entity that intends to evaluate energy savings of a thermal power plant
Why should you use ISO 50045‒ Energy savings of thermal power plants?
Power plants mainly comprise one or several thermal power generating units (TPGUs) to produce electricity, or electricity and heat i.e., co-generation facilities and combined heat & power systems by burning coal, oil products, natural gas, and/or other fuels.
ISO 50045 gives you effective solutions for the energy management for thermal power plants, which helps you to evaluate the energy savings on the equipment of the power plants, including steam power plants based on the Rankine cycle, gas turbine plants, and combined cycle systems.
ISO 50045 covers principles, procedures, evaluation indexes, and calculation methods that help any interested party that deals with energy-saving solutions, for evaluating the energy savings of a thermal power plant.
ISO 50045 also gives methodologies that determine and compare the potential of energy savings of an existing TPGU. This helps you evaluate the contract guarantees of its energy savings, before energy performance improvement action (EPIA) and after the EPIA (e.g., energy performance contracting).
