What is ISO 5746 - Dimensions and test values for pliers about?
ISO 5746 is a standard that covers dimensions and test values for pliers, ensuring the strength, quality and performance in plier operations.
ISO 5746 specifies the principal dimensions of engineer's and Lineman's pliers and the test values for the pliers in order to verify their aptitude to function in conformity with ISO 5744. General technical requirements are given in ISO 5743.
Note: The engineer's and Lineman's pliers illustrated in ISO 5746 are examples only and are not intended to affect the manufacturer's design.
Who is ISO 5746 - Dimensions and test values for pliers for?
ISO 5746 on dimensions and test values for pliers applies to:
- Manufacturers of pliers
- Dealers and importers of pliers
- Testing houses and labs for pliers
- Quality assurance services
Why should you use ISO 5746 - Dimensions and test values for pliers?
Pliers are hand-operated instruments used to hold and grip small objects, as well as bend and cut wire. Dimension values enable the standardization of the manufacturing process depending on nominal length, diameter, cutting force, torque, maximum twist, load and maximum permanent set.
ISO 5746 provides users guidance on dimensions and test values for engineer pliers and lineman’s pliers, enabling users to standardize the dimensional properties for manufacturing pliers.
With obedience and compliance to ISO 5746, users can develop and assess pliers, ensuring stable operability, consistency and durability of pliers.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS ISO 5746:2021 supersedes BS ISO 5746:2004, which is now withdrawn.
- Additional nominal length for engineer's pliers
- Introduction of minimum and maximum lengths for each nominal length
- Small adjustments according to the Renard series
