What is ISO 5832-12 about?
ISO 5832 is an international standard that discusses metallic materials for surgical implants. ISO 5832-12 provides the best industry guidance on wrought cobalt-chromium-molybdenum alloy to ensure manufacturing efficient surgical implants.
ISO 5832-12 is the eleventh part of a multi-part series that specifies the requirements for two wrought cobalt 28-chromium 6-molybdenum alloys used for surgical implants. The properties apply specifically to the wrought bar, rod, and wire.
Note 1: The mechanical properties of a sample obtained from a finished product made of this alloy can differ from those specified in ISO 5832-12.
Note 2: The high carbon content of this alloy produces a structure containing a significant carbide distribution. This can be adjusted either in the production of the bar or in subsequent thermomechanical processing to produce the final device. Carbide distribution in the final device is not included as part of ISO 5832-12.
Who is ISO 5832-12 for?
ISO 5832-12 on wrought cobalt-chromium-molybdenum alloy is relevant to:
- Surgical implants manufacturers
- Medical laboratory
Why should you use ISO 5832-12?
No known surgical implant material has ever been shown to cause absolutely no adverse reactions in the human body, long-term clinical experience of the use of the material referred to in ISO 5832-12 has shown that an acceptable level of biological response can be expected when the material is used in appropriate applications.
ISO 5832-12 provides you with requirements for wrought high nitrogen stainless steel for producing high-quality surgical implants.
With compliance and obedience to ISO 5832-12, you can enhance the efficacy of surgical implants and produce a standardized product.
