What is ISO 5834--5 - Morphology assessment method about?
ISO 5834 is an international standard that discusses ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene for surgical implants. ISO 5834-5 provides the best industry guidance on morphology assessment methods to enhance surgical implants.
ISO 5834-5 is the fifth part of a multi-part series that outlines the test method for assessing the morphology of UHMWPE moulded forms which are described in ISO 5834-1.
The test method covers the determination of the morphology quality of moulded forms of ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene, and it is designed to evaluate the relative consolidation quality (morphology) of moulded forms of UHMWPE by measuring the number of incompletely fused UHMWPE particles.
Note1: ISO 5834-5 does not apply to UHMWPE powder forms, which are described in ISO 5834‑1.
Who is ISO 5834-5 - Morphology assessment method for?
BS ISO 5834-5 on the morphology assessment method is relevant to:
- Medical laboratories
- Personnel authorized for Morphology assessment
Why should you use ISO 5834-5 - Morphology assessment method?
Ultra-High molecular weight polyethylene is a very high viscosity polymer that is produced in powdered form. It has outstanding abrasion resistance, chemical resistance and is good in frictional properties, due to these outstanding factors Ultra-High molecular weight polyethylene includes bulk material handling
ISO 5834-5 guideline assists you with attest method that covers the determination of the morphology quality of moulded forms of ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE). Well-consolidated UHMWPE has few or no regions of incompletely fused UHMWPE flake particles.
The procedure under ISO 5834-5 is designed to evaluate the relative consolidation quality (morphology) of moulded forms of UHMWPE by measuring the number of incompletely fused UHMWPE particles.
With compliance and obedience to ISO 5834-5, you can efficiently assess the morphology of Ultra-high-molecular-weight and produce results that are reliable and comparable to other laboratories.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS ISO 5834-5:2019 supersedes ISO 5834-5:2005, which is withdrawn. BS ISO 5834-5:2019 has some technical changes compared to ISO 5834-5:2005. These include:
- Limit values and test methods are harmonized with respective ASTM standards
- Editorial updates are in line with all other parts of the ISO 5834 series
