What is ISO 6002 about?
ISO 6002 focuses on industrial valves. ISO 6002 specifies the requirements for bolted bonnet steel gate valves having the following features:
- Bolted bonnet
- Outside screw and yoke
- Inside screw (alternative for PN 10, PN 16, Class 150, PN 25 and PN 40 only)
- Single or double obturator
- Wedge or parallel seating
- With or without non-metallic obturator or seat seals
- Flanged or butt-welding ends
ISO 6002 applies to bolted bonnet steel gate valves used for all industrial applications.
Additional requirements given in the relevant application standards can apply to bolted bonnet steel gate valves used for more specific applications (for example, in the water industry, the chemical and petrochemical process industry, and the oil and gas industry).
Who is ISO 6002 for?
ISO 6002 on bolted bonnet steel gate valve strength is useful for organizations that design, build, and maintain bolted bonnet steel gate valves for the following industries:
- Oil and natural gas
- Chemical plants
- Domestic uses
- Manufacturing sectors
- Petrochemicals
- Marine industries
- Industries with gas storage tanks
In addition to manufacturers and suppliers of bolted bonnet steel gate valves, the following entities will also use ISO 6002:
- Mechanical engineers
- Inspection bodies
- Design engineers
- Research and development teams
- Quality control personnel
Why should you use ISO 6002?
The function of the valve is to control the flow, pressure, velocity, and direction of liquids. Fitting a valve correctly increases systems life expectancy and lowers the effects of cavitation. ISO 6002 provides you with design and safety guidelines that you need to adhere to. Following the guidelines given in ISO 6002 helps you to design effective bolted bonnet steel gate valves.
ISO 6002 covers all the requirements, dimensions and tolerance specifications related to the strength and thickness calculation of bolted bonnet steel gate valves.
ISO 6002 takes into account factors such as inspection and testing activities associated with the verification of industrial bonnet gate valves for compliance with the standard. ISO 6002 also guides you to use design reviews by manufacturers.
ISO 6002 includes information on butt welding, socket welding to the wall of the valve for auxiliary connections including document control, material traceability, and joint preparation. Following the specifications provided in ISO 6002 lets you manufacture and supply high quality bolted bonnet steel gate valves that are safe to use.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS ISO 6002:2021 supersedes BS ISO 6002:1992, which has been technically
Revised and include some technical changes with respect to BS ISO 6002:1992. These include:
- In the whole text, deletion of PN 20 and PN 50, the addition of PN 63 and the inclusion of nominal pipe sizes NPS and Class designation
- Addition of definitions for DN, NPS, PN and Class
- Revision of Figure 1 identifying valves terms and Figure 6 for butt-welding for auxiliary connections
- Addition of requirements for gate in 5.3 and stem in 5.4 and requirements for closure test in 5.6
- Deletion of former Table 1 on body wall thickness, deletion of former Table 3 on end-to-end dimensions for butt-weld end valves and deletion of former 5.4 on envelope dimensions
- Revision of Table 1 on body end port inside diameter, and Table 8 on component materials
- Update of Clause 7 on testing and inspection and Clause 8 on marking
