What is ISO 6486-1 - Test methods for release of lead and cadmium from ceramic ware, glass-ceramic ware?
ISO 6486-1 specifies exposure to lead and cadmium released from ceramics and glassware intended to come into contact with food.
ISO 6486-1 specifies a test method for the release of lead and cadmium from ceramic ware, glass-ceramic ware, and glass dinnerware intended to be used in contact with food but excluding vitreous and porcelain enamel articles (covered by ISO 4531).
Note 1: ISO 6486-1 is applicable to ceramic ware, glass-ceramic ware, and glass dinnerware which is intended to be used for the preparation, cooking, serving, and storage of food and beverages, excluding all articles used in food manufacturing industries or in which food is sold.
Note 2: ISO 6486-1 specifies that all repeat-use articles are tested three times with fresh extraction solution and the results of the third test reported for conformity with the permissible limits. It has been demonstrated that metal release into the third extraction is always less than the release into the first extraction.
Note 3: The test method is a combination of a leach procedure, which is the core of ISO 6486-1, and of the analytical method.
Who is ISO 6486-1 - Test methods for release of lead and cadmium from ceramic ware, glass-ceramic ware?
ISO 6486-1 on the release of lead and cadmium from ceramic ware, glass-ceramic ware is useful for:
- Food safety authority
- Utensil, glass utensil, and glass dinnerware manufacturers
- Hospitality industry
Why should you use ISO 6486-1 - Test methods for release of lead and cadmium from ceramic ware, glass-ceramic ware?
Contamination of ceramic, glass-ceramic, and glass dinnerware used for food preparation, cooking, serving, and storage by toxic metals, particularly lead and cadmium, is a problem that requires effective control to protect the population from possible hazards.
As a supplementary factor, national rules for controlling harmful metal leakage from ceramic surfaces offer non-tariff obstacles to international commerce in these goods. As a result, it is critical to maintaining globally approved techniques of testing for metal release. 6486-1 was used to appropriate accuracy to the level of release of lead and cadmium. 6486-1 provides a test method for the release of potentially toxic metals, particularly lead and cadmium, from ceramic and glassware surfaces is an issue that requires effective means of control to ensure the protection of the population against possible hazards. The dietary intake of harmful elements, particularly lead and cadmium constitutes a health threat ISO 6486-1 provides test method for the release of lead and cadmium from ceramic ware, glass-ceramic ware, and glass dinnerware undertaken to reduce consumer exposure.
ISO 6486-1 specifies a test method for the release of lead and cadmium from ceramic ware, glass-ceramic ware, and glass dinnerware intended to be used in contact with food that helps for manufacturing products by considering consumer's health and safety.
