What is ISO 6627 - Expander/rail oil-control rings about?
ISO 6627 is an international organisation for standardization that specifies the essential dimensional features of expander/rail oil-control rings, without providing a complete product description (because expander‑rail designs vary from piston-ring manufacturer to piston-ring manufacturer, the interaction between the manufacturer and the client will determine specific design details).
ISO 6627 applies to expander/rail oil-control rings of nominal diameters ranging from 40 mm to 140 mm for reciprocating internal combustion engines for road vehicles and other applications. ISO 6627 also applies to piston rings for compressors working under analogous conditions.
Who is ISO 6627 - Expander/rail oil-control rings for?
ISO 6627 on expander/rail oil-control rings is useful for:
- The transportation industry
- The manufacturing industry
- Piston rings manufacturers
- Quality assurance managers
Why should you use ISO 6627 - Expander/rail oil-control rings?
ISO 6627 deals with piston rings for reciprocating internal combustion engines. The common features and dimensional tables included in ISO 6627 represent a broad range of variables. In selecting a ring type, the designer will above all need to consider the particular operating conditions.
ISO 6627 provides its users with the types and common features of expander/rail oil control rings, and guidelines for the dimensions, materials, and nominal unit pressure.
Using ISO 6627 guidelines ensures safety and protection, durability, and quality assurance for its users.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS ISO 6627:2022 supersedes ISO 6627:2011, which is withdrawn. BS ISO 6627:2022 includes some technical changes with respect to ISO 6627:2011. These include:
- Previous nomenclature referred to the rails as segments
- Barrel faced rail was added
- PVD specification for rails was added
- Figures and tables were revised
- New dimension introduced for expander
