What is ISO 6934‑4 about?
ISO 6934‑4 is the fourth part of a series of documents on steel for the prestressing of concrete. ISO 6934‑4 specifies requirements for steel strand which has been given a stress-relieving heat treatment according to the general requirements specified in ISO 6934-1. ISO 6934‑4 covers 10 grades of steel strand for use in prestressed concrete construction; each strand can contain either 2, 3, 7, or 19 individual wires. In case of any conflict between the requirements of ISO 6934‑4 and ISO 6934-1, the requirements of the document prevail.
Who is ISO 6934‑4 for?
ISO 6934‑4 on steel for the prestressing of concrete is relevant to:
- Steel industry
- Civil engineer
- Architects, designers
- Structural engineers
Why should you use ISO 6934‑4?
Steel strand is a twisted steel cable composed of high-strength steel wires that are stress-relieved (stabilized) for use in producing prestressed concrete.
ISO 6934‑4 guides the user in prestressing the concrete by providing information on stress-relieving heat treatment, conditions of manufacturing, dimensions, masses, the strength of strand, elongation, and ductility.
ISO 6934‑4 assists you in manufacturing or selecting high-strength steel strands for use in prestressed concrete construction. As a user of ISO 6934‑4, you can be ensured of quality and end performance in the built environment. ISO 6934‑4 provides the latest options and testing procedures for steel strands and concrete. Overall, with ISO 6934‑4, you will be able to construct a high-strength concrete structure.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS ISO 6934‑4:2020 cancels and replaces the first edition (ISO 6934-4:1991), which has been technically revised
The main changes compared to the previous edition are as follows:
- Subclause 4.6 has been added to introduce finishing and appearance
- Figure 1 on typical 19-wire strand configuration has been updated
- Subclause 6.5 and annex a have been added to introduce and elaborate on stress corrosion
- Subclause 6.6 and annex b have been added to introduce and elaborate on deflected tensile test
- Table 1 on dimensions, masses, and tensile properties of strand has been updated
- In clause 7, the terminology "newtons per square millimeter" has been replaced with "mpa"
- In clause 8, packing and protection requirements have been added.
