What is ISO 7195 about?
ISO 7195 is a comprehensive set of guidelines for the packaging and transportation of uranium hexafluoride for nuclear energy.
ISO 7195 outlines specifications for cylinders for the transport of uranium hexafluoride (UF6) to ensure compatibility between users and presents primarily information on UF6 packaging. It is intended to provide information on compatibility of UF6 cylinders among different users within the nuclear industry.
Who is ISO 7195 for?
ISO 7195 on nuclear energy is useful for:
- Nuclear physicists
- Chemical engineers
- Any entity responsible for packaging and transportation of UF6
Why should you use ISO 7195?
Uranium hexafluoride is a chemical compound consisting of one atom of uranium combined with six atoms of fluorine.
ISO 7195 provides fabrication requirements for the procurement of new valve protections, valves, and plugs, their protections in service.
ISO 7195 specifies cylinders for the transport of UF6 to provide compatibility among different users and to present descriptions of cylinder designs but is not intended to develop new cylinder designs.
Overall, ISO 7195 provides comprehensive information regarding the packaging and transportation of uranium hexafluoride, as it is radioactive and dangerous for the environment, and cannot be handled in an unsafe manner.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN ISO 7195:2020 supersedes BS EN ISO 7195:2005. BS EN ISO 7195:2020 includes some technical changes concerning BS EN ISO 7195:2005. These include:
- The general structure of the document has been partly reorganized to enhance clarity and to ease comparison with ANSI N14.1
- The cylinder model 48G has been removed and the cylinder model 30C added
- The socket head plugs for 30 in and 48 in cylinders have been added
- The possibility for 30B, 48X, and 48Y cylinders to use non-destructive examinations as an alternative to hydrostatic testing during their periodic inspections, with the condition that additional examinations are carried out at the time of their manufacturing, has been introduced
- The use of leak test methods other than the specified one is now permitted
