What is ISO 728- Size analysis of coke by sieving about?
ISO 728 specifies procedures for the size analysis of coke by manual and/or low impact mechanical sieving, using square or round holed sieves of aperture sizes between 125 mm and 0,5 mm.
ISO 728 provides guidance on handling the sampling and sizing of coke products greater than 125 mm.
Who is ISO 728 - Size analysis of coke by sieving for?
ISO 728 on the size analysis by sieving is beneficial for:
- Chemical engineers
- Civil engineers
- People having knowledge of solid structure, soil texture, and particle density
- Manufacturers of sieve
Why should you use ISO 728 - Size analysis of coke by sieving?
A sieve analysis can be performed on any type of non-organic or organic granular materials including sand, crushed rock, clay, granite, feldspar, coal, soil, a wide range of manufactured powder, grain, and seeds, down to a minimum size depending on the exact method.
A sample of coke with less than 5 % moisture is subjected to a process of size analysis by a specified manual and or mechanical sieving, and the results are expressed in terms of the cumulative percentage by mass of the coke remaining on sieves of different sized openings. ISO 728 assists the user in calculating coke mean size.
ISO 728 involves several layers of sieves with different grades of sieve opening sizes. ISO 728 is used to determine the particle size distribution of granular material with macroscopic granular sizes. Overall, ISO 728 is helpful as it provides detailed information on size analysis which can be beneficial for your business.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS ISO 728:2021 supersedes BS 1016110.1:1996, which is withdrawn.
BS ISO 728:2021 cancels and replaces ISO 728:1995 and ISO 2325:1986, which have been technically revised.
The main changes compared to the previous edition are as follows:
- The coke size analysis of the minus 20 mm fractions has been moved to this document
- Low impact mechanical sieving was added to the scope
- Hand placing of coke was introduced from 125 mm down to 22,4 mm to be consistent with coal sizing ISO 1953
- ISO 728 now incorporates ISO 2325
- The coke mean size calculation was modified, moved from an annex to the main document and a worked example added
