What is ISO 7358 about?
ISO 7358 specifies a high-performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) method, using either an internal standard or external standard, for the determination of the bergapten content in the essential oil of bergamot [Citrus aurantium ssp. bergamia (Risso et Poit.) Wight et Arn. ex Engl.], in the essential oil of lemon [Citrus limon (L.) Burm. f.], in the essential oil of bitter orange (Citrus bigaradia Risso) and in the essential oil of lime [Citrus aurantiifolia (Christm.) Swingle and Citrus latifolia Tanaka], all of them fully or partially reduced in bergapten.
Who is ISO 7358 for?
ISO 7358 on essential oils of bergamot, lemon, bitter orange, and lime is useful for:
- Research laboratories
- Essential oil manufacturers
- Pharmaceutical companies
Why should you use ISO 7358?
Citrus oils obtained from citrus by-products are widely used in many areas because of their bioactive nature. Their usage in products has been restricted because of its phototoxic nature and other health problems of some of the non-volatile compounds, especially bergapten.
ISO 7358 specifies high-performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) method which will help you in determination of bergapten in your product which help you regulate the content of bergapten which is unsafe for users.
