What is this standard about?
This revised international standard is part of BSI’s extensive aerospace range and covers space and dimension requirements for main deck passenger doors for the design and construction of future types of civil-passenger transport aircraft.
Who is this standard for?
- Aircraft design engineers
- The aeronautical industry
- Testers of aircraft passenger doors
- Aeronautical health and safety executives
Why should you use this standard?
BS ISO 7718 specifies the minimum requirements for dimensions and unobstructed space around main deck passenger doors on the outer skin of civil transport aircraft, applicable when these doors are designed to accept the connection of existing passenger boarding bridges or transfer vehicles.
Use of passenger transfer vehicles and boarding bridges is growing and increasingly being planned worldwide at airports. This standard aims to clarify for those involved in aeronautical production that certain design characteristics would make it difficult for a new type of aircraft to adequately connect with existing airport passenger boarding bridges or transfer vehicles.
NOTE: This document is not applicable to existing models of civil transport aircraft, or derivative models with entry into service up to year 2000 with the same fuselage, for which the aircraft-mating section of passenger boarding bridges or passenger transfer vehicles is expected to be compatible with ISO 16004.
What’s changed since the last update?
This second edition has been updated by experts to consider the latest technical and industry developments. It constitutes a minor revision and includes the following changes:
- The title has been modified by adding “passenger transfer vehicle”
- In clause 4.3 minimum aircraft door sill height was increased from 1.60m to 1.80m
- Editorial changes have been made including the addition of a table of contents
