What is this standard about?
This international standard is a brand new addition to the very large family of standards that help design engineers specify and manufacture products more accurately and unambiguously.
This particular standard defines a system of tolerance grades, draft angle (taper) grades and machining allowance grades for cast metals and their alloys produced by various casting manufacturing processes.
It also specifies general geometrical tolerances using surface profile tolerances related to a general datum system that remains on the final part.
Who is this standard for?
It’s aimed at mechanical, design and manufacturing engineers in:
- Aerospace
- Defence
- Automotive
- Rail
- Nuclear
Equally, any engineering or manufacturing organization producing engineering drawings in either 2D or 3D for castings could use this standard.
Why should you use this standard?
It tackles issues that haven’t been covered elsewhere in the ISO 8062 series. It will enable designers and manufacturers to comply more fully with the ISO GPS standards system when specifying castings, thus achieving more accurate products.
