What is ISO 813 - Rubber, vulcanized or thermoplastic about ?
ISO 813 specifies a method for the determination of the adhesive strength of a vulcanized or thermoplastic rubber bonded to a rigid substrate, using a test piece comprising a strip of rubber bonded to a single plate of rigid material. The test is carried out at a peel angle of 90°.
The method described in ISO 813 is applicable primarily to test pieces prepared in the laboratory under standard conditions, such as can be used to provide data for the choice of rubber compounds or adhesive systems, the development of such materials and the control of manufacturing processes.
This method is not suitable for high-hardness rubbers, typically above 85 IRHD.
Who is ISO 813 - Rubber, vulcanized or thermoplastic for ?
ISO 813 on rubbers or thermoplastics is relevant to:
- Manufacturers of rubbers and thermoplastics
- Chemical engineers
- Any entity responsible for testing and quality of rubber and thermoplastics
Why should you use ISO 813 - Rubber, vulcanized or thermoplastic ?
A thermoplastic rubber is a relatively new class of polymer, which combines the solubility and thermoplasticity of polystyrene with the toughness and resilience of vulcanized natural rubber or polybutadiene at ambient temperatures.
ISO 813 provides methods to determine the adhesion of a rigid substrate using peel method.
ISO 813 specifies all significant requirements, dimension preparation prior to testing, and adhesion strength methods for determining adhesion strengths in thin and rigid substances using the peel method.
Overall, ISO 813 is a comprehensive guide to provide methods for determining the adhesion of rigid substance, so users will gain a comprehensive understanding of the quality of thermoplastics and rubbers to improve the durability and strength.
