What is ISO 8373 about?
ISO 8373 is stand that serves technical specifications for usage of standardized vocabulary in the field of robotics that is in compliance with international standards.
ISO 8373 defines terms used in relation to robotics. It includes the terms related to mechanical structure, geometry and kinematics, programming and control, performance, sensing and navigation, module and modularity in the field of robotics.
Who is ISO 8373 for?
ISO 8373 on robotics vocabulary is applicable to:
- Manufacturers and suppliers of robots
- Companies manufacturing robotic components
- Robot research and testing labs
- Services consulting industries on robotic applications
Why should you use ISO 8373?
As the world gears up for robotic applications for automating repetitive tasks, robotic machines become more and more complex, there is an imminent need to standardize the vocabulary of different functions and measures related to them.
ISO 8373 provides you a comprehensive guide to robotics vocabulary which includes terms related to mechanical structure, geometry, and kinematics, programming and control, performance, sensing and navigation, module and modularity that will help you standardize the vocabulary across all the points of the robotic value chain.
Guidance in ISO 8373 supports the development of new documents and the harmonization of existing international standards in the field of robotics, making it feasible and obliging to its users to upgrade their data accordingly.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS ISO 8373:2021 supersedes BS ISO 8373:2012, which is now withdrawn.
Changes in BS ISO 8373:2021 include -
- Definitions have been reviewed to take into account the state of the art
- Entries have been added, e.g., medical robot, wearable robot, and terms related to modularity
- Terms and definitions have been updated for harmonization with existing standards
