What is ISO 8529-3-Calibration of the area and personal dosimeters for neutron radiation about?
ISO 8529 is an international standard on reference neutron radiations that discusses the calibration of the area and personal dosimeters for neutron radiation to ensure protection against neutron radiations.
ISO 8529-3 is the thirst part of the ISO 8529 series that provides guidance for those who calibrate protection-level dosimeters and dose-rate meters for the area and individual monitoring with reference neutron radiations. This includes the determination of the response as a function of neutron energy and angle of incidence. The
operational quantities recommended in ICRU are also considered.
In addition to the description of procedures, ISO 8529-3 includes appropriate definitions and conversion coefficients and provides guidance on the statement of measurement uncertainties and the preparation of calibration records and certificates.
Note: The characteristics of the reference radiations, their methods of production and their application are described in ISO 8529-1 and ISO 8529-2.
Who is ISO 8529-3-Calibration of the area and personal dosimeters for neutron radiation for?
ISO 8529-3-Calibration of the area and personal dosimeters for neutron radiation is useful for:
- Area and personal dosimeter manufacturers
- Area and personal dosimeter test personnel/test laboratories
- Occupational health and safety departments
- Risk assessment authorities
- Quality assurance departments
Why should you use ISO 8529-3-Calibration of the area and personal dosimeters for neutron radiation?
Calibration is the quantitative determination, under a controlled set of standard test conditions, of the reading given by a dosimeter as a function of the value of the quantity to be measured.
ISO 8529-3 provides you with guidance on the procedures for monoenergetic and polyenergetic reference neutron fields, procedures for calibrating and determining the dose equivalent response of portable and installed area dosimeters, quality to be measured and conversion coefficients, evaluation of measurement, determination of the dose equivalent response in stray neutron fields, Presentation of results, etc.
The guidance provided by ISO 8529-3 assist you in the calibration of the area and personal dosimeters for neutron radiation, and maintaining accuracy, standardization, and repeatability in measurements, assuring reliable benchmarks and results.
With obedience and compliance to ISO 8529-3, you can enhance the area and personal dosimeters’ effectiveness and efficacy and manufacture a standardized high-quality product.
