What is ISO 8600-5 - Optical resolution of rigid endoscopes with optics about?
ISO 8600-5 describes procedures for determining the optical resolution of rigid endoscopes with optics.
ISO 8600-5 applies to rigid endoscopes designed for use in the practice of medicine. Endoscopes having a fiber-optic or optoelectronic imaging system are excluded.
ISO 8600-5 describes acceptable test methods for measuring characteristics such as Limiting resolution, Contrast transfer function (CTF) and Modulation transfer function (MTF).
Who is ISO 8600-5 - Optical resolution of rigid endoscopes with optics for?
ISO 8600-5 on medical endoscopes and endotherapy devices is useful for:
- Opticians
- Medical personnel’s
- Optical appliances manufacturers
- Optical equipment manufacturers and suppliers
- Endotherapy Devices manufacturers
- Gastroenterologist
Why should you use ISO 8600-5 - Optical resolution of rigid endoscopes with optics?
ISO 8600-5 provides a measurement method for characterizing three aspects of the optical resolution of a rigid endoscope. Characteristic A is used to provide a simple measurement of the limiting resolution of the endoscope image. Characteristic B provides a measurement of low spatial frequency resolution and characterizes the sharpness, or contrast, of the endoscope image. Characteristic C provides a measurement of the spatial frequency response of the endoscope image.
ISO 8600-5 helps in the quality assurance of rigid endoscopes. By adopting ISO 86005, manufacturers can demonstrate the reliability of their endoscopes and build trust in their use throughout the medical industry.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS ISO 8600-5:2020 supersedes BS ISO 8600-5:2005, which is withdrawn.
The main changes are as follows:
- BS ISO 8600-5:2020 has been restructured
- Quality characteristics “contrast transfer function” and “modulation transfer function” as measurement methods are introduced
- Measurement with limiting resolution moved
