What is ISO 871 – Reaction of plastics to the effects of ignition sources about?
ISO 871 lays out a laboratory method for determining the flash-ignition temperature and spontaneous-ignition temperature of plastics using a hot-air furnace. ISO 871 is one of a number of methods in use for evaluating the reaction of plastics to the effects of ignition sources. Note: Information on additional ignition methods can be found in ISO 10093.
Who is ISO 871 – Reaction of plastics to the effects of ignition sources for?
ISO 871 on the reaction of plastics to the effects of ignition sources is useful for:
- The plastics industry
- Testing agencies involved in the inspection of plastics
- Manufacturers and suppliers of plastic products
- Quality control accessors and evaluators
- Product development engineers / innovation teams
Why should you use ISO 871 – Reaction of plastics to the effects of ignition sources?
The testing guidelines provided in ISO 871 could aid towards the efficiency and durability of plastic products.
ISO 871 provides you with details such as the location of the thermocouples, setchkin furnace, refractory tube furnace.
ISO 871 provides you with one procedure using flash-ignition temperature, and another using spontaneous-ignition temperature. Detailed diagrams and tables on the test apparatus as well as temperatures have been provided to aid you with the test.
Referring to ISO 871 can prevent hazards and ensure best industry practices. What’s changed since the last update?
BS ISO 871:2022 supersedes ISO 871:2006, which has been withdrawn. BS ISO 871:2022 includes some technical changes with respect to ISO 871:2006. These include:
- An option to use a modification of the equipment used for ISO 1182 to assess ignitability has been added.
