What is ISO 8791-4 about?
ISO 8791-4 is the fourth element of a multi-series standard which talks about the texture of papers and boards that enhance their quality and printability.
ISO 8791-4 specifies a method for determining the roughness of paper and board using an apparatus which conforms to the Print-surf method. ISO 8791-4 gives requirements such as apparatus, sampling, condition, preparation of test pieces, procedure, calculation, precision and test report for print-surf method.
Note: ISO 8791-4 applies to all printing papers and boards with which it is possible to form a substantially airtight seal against the guard lands of the measuring head.
Who is ISO 8791-4 for?
ISO 8791-4 on print-surf method for determining roughness and smoothness applies to:
- Paper mills and manufacturers
- Dealers, distributors and importers of paper and boards
- Paper industries
- Testing houses and labs for quality assurance
Why should you use ISO 8791-4?
The print-surf method assesses the roughness of paper and board under conditions that simulate nip pressures and backing substrates encountered in printing. It applies to coated and uncoated papers and paperboards that will be printed using contacting printing techniques.
ISO 8791-4 gives you all the required information about technicalities for carrying out the print-surf method for determining roughness and smoothness of a paper or board. It informs you about test procedures including the details about apparatus, sampling, condition, and preparation of test pieces for investigating the roughness or the smoothness of the paper/board.
The users of ISO 8791-4 can follow the procedure and calculation to get precise results, enabling them to prepare the test reports that assist in verifying and customizing the texture of the paper and board by using the print-surf method as per the customer’s demands.
What’s changed since the last update?
