What is ISO 9477 - High strength cast steel about?
ISO 9477 is an international standard on cast steels and alloys that discusses the requirements for manufacturing high-strength cast steels for general engineering and structural purposes.
ISO 9477 specifies requirements for four grades of heat-treated cast carbon and alloy steels for general engineering and structural purposes.
In cases where castings are produced by welding parts together, ISO 9477 does not cover the welding process or the properties of the weldment.
The four steel grades are intended for service at ambient temperature. However, properties at other temperatures can be agreed on through the use of supplementary requirements in ISO 4990.
Who is ISO 9477 - High strength cast steel for?
ISO 9477 on high strength cast steel is relevant to:
- Manufacturer of high strength cast steel
- Mechanical engineer
- Structural engineer
Why should you use ISO 9477 - High strength cast steel?
Cast steel offers the mechanical properties of wrought steel and can be welded. Casting offers freedom of geometry, so casting part design plays a key role in mechanical performance. Sections of a cast part subject to higher stress can be beefed up while low-stress regions can be reduced.
ISO 9477 provides guidance on heat treatment, chemical requirements, mechanical properties, maximum use temperature.
ISO 9477 exemplifies the required chemical composition and mechanical properties that help you achieve precision in terms of product functionality and specification.
With obedience and compliance to ISO 9477, you can efficiently manufacture high-strength cast steels for general engineering and structural purposes. ISO 9477 provides you with comprehensive information useful throughout the process of production.
