What is ISO 9649- Metallic materials- Reverse torsion test about?
ISO 9649 is a safety standard on metallic materials.
ISO 9649 specifies a method for determining the ability of metallic wire of diameter dimension from 0,3 mm to 10,0 mm inclusive to undergo plastic deformation during reverse torsion.
This test is used to detect surface defects, as well as to assess ductility.
Who is ISO 9649- Metallic materials- Reverse torsion test for?
ISO 9649 on reverse torsion test is relevant to:
- Metallurgical engineers
- Testing authorities of torsion testing
- Manufacturers of wire testing equipments and machines
Why should you use ISO 9649- Metallic materials- Reverse torsion test?
A reverse torsion test is a test applied to a rod or wire in which the test piece is twisted axially first in one direction and then in the opposite direction for a specified number of turns.
ISO 9649 specifies a test in which a test piece of wire is twisted a specified number of turns through 360° around its own axis in one direction, and then a specified number of turns through 360° in the opposite direction. The grips have a minimum hardness of 55HRC to provide rigidity and/or resistance to abrasion.
Overall, ISO 9649 is useful as it provides guidance on the reverse torsion test method for metallic materials which can be helpful for your business.
