What is ISO 9938 – PTFE hose assemblies for aerospace about?
Aerospace components need to meet stringent quality standards due to the extreme conditions that they are exposed to. Hydraulic hoses are used in aerospace to convey fluid from one area to another.
ISO 9938 is an International Standard that discusses hydraulic hoses for aerospace applications.
ISO 9938 specifies requirements for polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) hose assemblies for use in aircraft hydraulic systems at temperatures between –55 °C and +204 °C and at a nominal pressure up to 28 000 kPa (280 bar).
Who is ISO 9938 – PTFE hose assemblies for aerospace for?
ISO 9938 on PTFE hose assemblies for aerospace is useful for:
- The aerospace / aeronautical industry
- The military
- Manufacturers of aerospace equipment and components
- Product design engineers / innovation teams
- Quality control personnel
- Testing agencies involved in the inspection of hose assemblies
- Procurement / documentation teams
- Aerospace engineers
Why should you use ISO 9938 – PTFE hose assemblies for aerospace?
The hose assemblies are also suitable for use within the same temperature and pressure limitations in aircraft pneumatic systems where some gaseous diffusion through the wall of the PTFE liner may be tolerated.
ISO 9938 walks you through aspects of PTFE hose assemblies such as requirements, materials, hose, screw threads, identification of products, and hose assembly. The tests and performance requirements section provides guidance on the construction, test conditions, classification of inspections, inspection methods, and quality conformance inspections. Marking guidelines have also been provided in ISO 9938.
As a manufacturer, ISO 9938 guidelines help you to design and manufacture high-quality hydraulic hoses for aerospace. As a buyer, ISO 9938 guidelines help you to clearly state your procurement requirements to the vendor.
ISO 9938 ensures the reliability of aerospace hydraulic hoses. This contributes to the safety of those on board.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS ISO 9938:2022 supersedes BS ISO 9938:1994, which is withdrawn. BS ISO 9938:2022 includes some technical changes with respect to BS ISO 9938:1994. These include:
- Clause 2 was updated
- References in the whole document were updated
- Column "Material No." was added to Table 1
- NOTE in 4.4.4.1 was deleted
- Annex A now only contains the equivalent components
