What is ISO/IEC 15693‑3 — Cards and security devices for personal identification about?
ISO/IEC 15693-3 is the third part of an international multi-series standard that deals with cards and security devices for personal identification.
ISO/IEC 15693‑3 specifies protocols and commands, methods to detect and communicate with one card among several cards ("anticollision") and optional means to ease and speed up the selection of one among several cards based on application criteria.
It also covers the other parameters required to initialize communication between a vicinity integrated circuit and vicinity coupling devices.
Note: ISO/IEC 15693‑3 does not preclude the incorporation of other standard technologies on the card.
Who is ISO/IEC 15693‑3— Cards and security devices for personal identification for?
ISO/IEC 15693-3 on Cards and security devices for personal identification is useful for:
- Companies that use vicinity cards for their gateway for security purposes
- Residential Societies that use Cards and devices for personal identification
- High-security zonal areas of Military departments
- Manufacturing companies of Vicinity cards and their coupling devices
Why should you use ISO/IEC 15693‑3— Cards and security devices for personal identification?
Contactless card standards cover a variety of types as embodied in close-coupled cards, proximity cards, and vicinity cards. These are intended for operation when very near, nearby and at a longer distance from associated coupling devices, respectively.
ISO/IEC 15693‑3 provides you with guidelines and commands on anti-collision and transmission protocols for describing the parameters for cards and security devices. It specifies parameters to initialize communications between a vicinity integrated circuit card and a vicinity coupling device.
ISO/IEC 15693‑3 specifies methods to detect and communicate with one card among several cards i.e., the anti-collision protocol for the cards and security devices. It provides you with the security framework provides an interface to the crypto suites that include optional security features in order to enhance the safety of the users.
ISO/IEC 15693‑3 specifies optional means to ease and speed up the selection of one among several cards based on applications.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS ISO/IEC 15693‑3:2019 supersedes BS ISO/IEC 15693‑3:2009+A4:2017, which is withdrawn. The main changes compared to the previous edition are as follows:
- RFU bits
- Fast response data rates
