description
1 Scope
ThispartofISO/IEC 18000definestheairinterfaceforradiofrequencyidentification (RFID) devicesoperatinginthe860 MHzto960 MHzIndustrial, Scientific, andMedical (ISM) bandusedinitemmanagementapplications. ItprovidesacommontechnicalspecificationforRFIDdevicesthatcanbeusedbyISOcommitteesdevelopingRFIDapplicationstandards. ThispartofISO/IEC 18000isintendedtoallowforcompatibilityandtoencourageinter-operabilityofproductsforthegrowingRFIDmarketintheinternationalmarketplace. Itdefinestheforwardandreturnlinkparametersfortechnicalattributesincluding, butnotlimitedto, operatingfrequency, operatingchannelaccuracy, occupiedchannelbandwidth, maximumeffectiveisotropicradiatedpower (EIRP), spuriousemissions, modulation, dutycycle, datacoding, bitrate, bitrateaccuracy, bittransmissionorder, and, whereappropriate, operatingchannels, frequencyhoprate, hopsequence, spreadingsequence, andchiprate. Itfurtherdefinesthecommunicationsprotocolusedintheairinterface.
ThispartofISO/IEC 18000specifiesthephysicalandlogicalrequirementsforapassive-backscatter, Interrogator-Talks-First (ITF) systems. ThesystemcomprisesInterrogators, alsoknownasreaders, andtags, alsoknownaslabels. AnInterrogatorreceivesinformationfromatagbytransmittingacontinuous-wave (CW) RFsignaltothetag; thetagrespondsbymodulatingthereflectioncoefficientofitsantenna, therebybackscatteringaninformationsignaltotheInterrogator. ThesystemisITF, meaningthatatagmodulatesitsantennareflectioncoefficientwithaninformationsignalonlyafterbeingdirectedtodosobyanInterrogator.
Indetail, thispartofISO/IEC 18000containsType A.
Type AisITF. Type AusesPulse-IntervalEncoding (PIE) intheforwardlinkandanadaptiveALOHAcollision-arbitrationalgorithm.
